The SipChip from Undercover Colors: the only drink test with 99.3% accuracy

Undercover Colors (UCC) mission is to create positive change by enabling a culture of consent and reducing the likelihood and number of sexual assaults. We worked with UCC to design and develop the SipChip, an easy and discreet way to test a drink to see if it was spiked.

UCC came to us with an initial concept that had gained significant media attention and traction with investors, but also had many regulatory, chemical and technical barriers to get to market. Through customer research, product design exploration, and intense work with chemists and materials, we developed a commercially viable and better direction than the initial concept — we developed the SipChip.

Alongside the complex product innovation phase, we worked with UCC to pivot the business strategic direction, determine likely customer actions, lead quality and chemical testing, work within the FDA requirements, and develop manufacturing and packaging strategy. We also determined secondary market opportunities and assisted UCC in working with the alcohol industry, nightclubs and bars to increase the public service aspects of alcohol drinking safety.
